Almost 2,800 runners from 62 nationalities have already registered in the Transgrancanaria, which will be held from 20 to 24 February
The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, RFEA (Real Federación Española de Atletismo, in Spanish) has once again put its trust in the Transgrancaria HG, just as it did in 2018 when the Advanced mode hosted the Spanish Trail Championships. For the next edition, the Transgrancanaria Marathon will be one of the events considered when deciding which runners will represent Spain in the next Trail World Championships, which will take place on the 8th of June 2019 in Thilhos dos Abutres, Portugal.
The new criteria have been decided by the Spanish Team Manager, José Peiró, with the approval of the sports director. There will be a maximum of 8 athletes per category (male and female), including Luis Alberto Hernando, Cristofer Clemente and Laia Cañes – short-listed after the medals achieved in the Penyagolosa World Cup – and the current Spanish champions of the specialty, Albert Pujol and Azara García.
In addition to the Transgrancanaria Marathon, two other races will award points to be among the selected ones: the Reventón Trail and the Marató i Mitja of Penyagolosa Trails (13 April 2019).
The Marathon mode, apart from being selected by the RFEA, will also give points for the next edition of the Spain Ultra Cup, along with the MiM 60 km from Penyagolosa Trails, the Open 48 km from Riaño, the TP60 from Peñalara, the Trail 62 km in Ultra Sierra Nevada, the Long Trail of 52 km from Guara Somontano HG and the Binter Marathon of Haría Extreme Lanzarote (44 km).
Almost 2,800 runners from 62 nationalities have already registered in the Transgrancanaria, which will be held from 20 to 24 February. In addition to the Marathon, the race has five other modes: Youth, Promo & Family Trans, Started, Advanced, Transgrancanaria 128 Km and Transgrancanaria 360°.
