Less than a month to go for one of the most popular trail running races in the world. The registration period finished last night with numbers that confirm that this event continues to grow year by year.
The registration period ended last night with 3.979 runners, exceeding last year’s 3.780 athletes
It is specially significant to highlight the number of foreign runners who choose Gran Canaria as their favorite destination to start their ultra races season. While Transgrancanaria had 1.005 foreign runners in 2016, in this 2018 there will be 1.913 runners coming from outside Spain, barely doubling the amount of two years ago. The total number of runners will be 3.979, coming from 71 different countries.

The comparison: 2017 vs 2018
One of the main conclusions that can be stated after analyzing the registration numbers is that runners love changes. The two races which have course modifications this year – Transgrancanaria and Advanced – have experimented a significant increase of runners compared to 2017, reaching top numbers in the race’s history.
The new start of Transgrancanaria 125 km in Las Canteras beach, in the core of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, had a great reception. Fort he first time in the nineteen editions, this race will count with more than 1.000 participants.
The other distance, the new 64 km Advanced, varied its course with an important decrease of kilometers (82 last year). Runners welcomed this change as they have a more achievable distance after participating in the maratón. This way, nearly 900 runners will start this new race from Artenara, which means a 29% increase from last year’s Advanced.
The rest of the races will have a similar amount of runners as in 2017. The marathon will start as usual in El Garañón (Tejeda), the Starter in Tunte (San Bartolomé de Tirajana) and the Promo and Family Trans in Ayagaures (San Bartolomé de Tirajana). The course of the 360º challenge remains secret. The common finish line for every race will be in Expomeloneras.
Transgrancanaria HG 2018 will take place in February 21st – 25th, with Sport HG as the main sponsor. The race has the oficial sponsorship of: Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria’s Tourism Board, Gran Canaria European Sport Island, Promotur Canarias, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria town hall, Maspalomas Costa Canaria, Amlsport, Lopesan, Hospitales Perpetuo Socorro and RS Sonocom.
