A magical and unique island deserves an official presentation in an outstanding environment. As a result, the main actors of the 19th edition of Transgrancanaria HG were gathered in the new start line, La Puntilla area, in Las Canteras Beach, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. After four years without thunder, the bet of the capital’s City Hall has been the key to change the route. This modification has leaded to an increasing interest in trail mountain race lovers.
The event was headed by the President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, as main representation of the island corporation. It has been the main support for the race growth in these last few years thanks to the Ministries of Tourism and Sports. The President stressed the “singular significance for sports, tourism and economy” Transgrancanaria has. “In 2017 edition, the race caused an economic impact of more than 15 million euros; 11 million euros in media impact and almost 5 million euros on participants and companion expenditure”, suggested Morales. Therefore, he explained that the institutions contribution is 150,000€ which are split in equal parts of 50,000€ between the Ministries of Tourism and Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and, by means of collective agreement, the Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government.
Transgrancanaria appeals to the image of the Canary Islands as the suitable place for practising outdoor sports. The Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government, Isaac Castellano, mentioned “the relation between tourism and sport that positions the archipelago as the perfect destination for outdoor sports”. Besides, the event is part of the training non stop platform of the Regional Ministry since it takes advantage of “the best climate in the world”.
The Vice-president and Minister of Sport of the Cabildo Insular, Ángel Victor Torres, thinks that “the race, which is among the top five in the world, reflects Gran Canaria values as European Sports Island” and expresses his gratitude for the “implication of all the cities” where the race takes place. After all, it makes people feel that Transgrancanaria belongs to everyone.
A vital support is provided by the Gran Canaria Tourist Board. The President and Minister of the Cabildo, Inés Jiménez, also made an entrance in the race presentation and mentioned the “important diversification of the touristic offer” that Transgrancanaria implies: more than twenty media coming from different parts of the world attend because of the invitation made by the Ministry.
The island’s corporation will be one of the main sponsors of the event thanks to the support of the Ministries of Tourism and Sports
