The representatives of the municipalities of Gran Canaria have gathered once again this year at the Breakfast with Mayors to show their support to the event.
The Hotel Aloe Canteras has hosted this meeting that Arista Eventos has already made a tradition of the event
The main representatives of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and of the town councils collaborating in the event wanted to show once again their support for this race, which is a great opportunity to unite sport, tourism, and culture. The Transgrancanaria has become the window through which the world can discover the unique spectacle of nature that our island offers.
The Sports and Tourism Departments of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria remain one of the main supporters of the event. The Sports Councillor of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Francisco Castellano, said this morning: “We are delighted to add and continue contributing to an event that after 20 years has proved everything and I know it will continue to do so. The Transgrancanaria HG is an emblem for Gran Canaria. It puts our island in the world spotlight of sport and also as a healthy and safe tourist destination. It is not only supported by the Sports Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, but also by more and more local councils of the island. Above all, I am also grateful for the participation of the private sponsors who are there fighting and lending a hand, because together we are more, and we do things much better”.
The island’s most international race continues to be one of the favourite destinations of the 3,500 participants from all over the world, thanks to the natural and cultural environment it offers. Achieving an international projection of our destination takes on great importance during this event, it is possible every year thanks to the involvement and collaboration of the different institutions.
“For San Bartolomé as a tourist municipality, this event is crucial. From the beginning we have been committed to the Transgrancanaria. For 20 years now, the majority of starts and finishes have been in our municipality, and this highlights the value of the combination of tourism and sport. This type of activity attracts other types of tourism and allows us to show the world that our municipality is an open-air gymnasium. This year we have a spectacular and much more comfortable finish line for the runners, offering them safety and a great festival to close”, declared Samuel Henríquez, Sports Councillor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
Aridany Romero, Sports Councillor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria explained: “For the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria this activity is fundamental and key, sporting and touristically speaking, as far as the city’s economy is concerned. It is an honour to be part not only logistically in the organisation as in other years, but also as part of the route, since the main event, the Classic, starts from our jewel, Las Canteras Beach. We will also continue to promote sporting activity with the start of the TGC Kids. This sporting event has become one of the best in the world, made by Canarian promoters and Arista Eventos, and that is a great satisfaction for us”.
The Councillor for Sports of Teror, Laura Quintana Rodríguez, commented during the meeting: “We are very happy that in its 20th birthday the Transgrancanaria will once again pass through the municipality of Teror. We have prepared the refreshment facilities to welcome the runners passing through. We have volunteers from the club ‘Los Álamos’. We have a lot of people who want to sign up, because we consider this to be the race par excellence of Gran Canaria and it benefits all the municipalities both in sporting and touristic terms”.
“The Transgrancanaria takes the image of our municipality abroad. For us it is an honour to show our greatest emblem, the Roque Nublo, to all the runners who come from outside our archipelago. This event is a very important stimulus for our municipality and is another way of promoting it abroad”, said the Mayor of Tejeda, Francisco Juan Perera Hernández, during the meeting.
Alberto Díaz, Sports Councillor of Artenara, added: “We are proud to participate in the Transgrancanaria. From Artenara we have always been supporting mountain sports. For us it is an honour to collaborate in this 20th anniversary with the Transgrancanaria HG by placing the refreshment station that we do every year, as we are a strategic point. We are also delighted to host the start of the Advanced. With this race we go from the summit to the sea”.
Finally, the race director, Carlos Torrent, thanked the institutional representatives for their presence at the event. “The collaboration of the city councils and public corporations is fundamental and necessary because in Transgrancanaria every year we look for ways to improve ourselves. On this 20th anniversary we have proposed some very attractive changes that are going ahead thanks to institutional support, both in terms of the routes and, for example, in the live broadcasting of the event, which this year will be even more spectacular”.
The place chosen for this event has been the Hotel Aloe Canteras which is located just a few metres from the emblematic Playa de las Canteras. From its chill out terrace, you can enjoy unique views of the Atlantic Ocean and let yourself be carried away by the murmur of the waves breaking on the beach. Undoubtedly, the perfect place to be near the sea in the city and also located a few metres from several leisure spots.
Transgrancanaria is an event organized by Arista Eventos, with SportHG as the main sponsor, and with the institutional sponsorship of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria – through the Tourism and Sports boards –, Promotur Canary Islands, Maspalomas Costa Canaria and the Town Hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The companies Fred. Olsen Express, Amlsport, Expomeloneras and RS Sonocom continue as official sponsors of the race, and this year 226 ERS and the Vital Suites Hotel have also joined the Transgrancanaria family.
