Pau Capell seeks to conquer the Transgrancanaria SWE once more

The Catalan hopes to be completely recovered from his injury in Gran Canaria, his charm island – “I’m eager to fight as hard as possible”, says The North Face athlete, who has achieved four victories in the race.

Pau Capell returns to his talisman island, where he feels at home. Capell will be present once again at the Transgrancanaria SWE to compete for his fifth title in the race after finishing second in last year’s edition. According to him “If that means a fifth victory, it would be great to start 2023”.

The 31-year-old runner from The North Face team acknowledges that he is going to the 128-kilometre race with no particular goal in mind. “In a long distance race you need to get through the stages, make it to the refreshment stations and then reach Maspalomas with maximum strength and confidence that you’ve done a good job”, he explained.

Furthermore, Capell hopes that Gran Canaria will continue to remain his charm. “For me, every single Transgrancanaria has been special for a reason. Last year was my return after being injured for several months. And this year would only confirm that everything is fine, that we’re going for it all”, he said.

The athlete has achieved four straight Classic victories (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) and one in Advanced (2015). An injury prevented him from competing in 2021 and his reappearance in 2022 resulted in a second position after Pablo Villa from León. Amongst his extensive achievements, he has won UTMB and TDS in France, Patagonia Run in Argentina, Mozzart 100 in Austria and the Eiger Ultra-Trail in Switzerland.

The Transgrancanaria SWE is sponsored by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Turismo de Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria Isla Europea del Deporte, the Government of the Canary Islands with Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida, Maspalomas Costa Canarias, Instituto Municipal de Deportes de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the City Council of Tejeda; and by the firms SWE, Fred. Olsen Express, Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, Expomeloneras, 226ERS and Sonocom Audiovisuales, as well as the cooperation of Provital, Fuente Umbría, Emicela, Pepsi Max, Coros, Vivac Aventura, Inerza, Hotel Aloe Canteras and Tirma.
