More than 50 different countries are already represented in the entrants list – Classic, Advanced and Marathon are the most demanded races

Transgrancanaria SWE is now over 2.000 participants in its entrants list just a day before the discount period for all its races comes to an end. Runners from 51 different countries are already registered for the event taking place between February 22nd and 26th in 2023. All the modifications in dates and courses are being welcomed by the participants, who are about to fill the maximum capacity of the Marathon distance three months before the race.

Carlos Torrent, race director, has stated: “Once again, we are very pleased with the feedback we are receiving from the runners all over the world. It was a risky choice for 2023 to change courses, dates, sponsors and many other services and we were uncertain about how the runners would react, but we are noticing that Gran Canaria is still a desired destination as well as our event”.

Torrent specially highlights the “loyalty” of the local runners, with more than 800 entrants coming from the Canary Islands”. He also adds that “we are always growing abroad, reaching the 5 continents. Every year we have the trust of the French, British, German, Polish, Scandinavian countries, etc., which means that Transgrancanaria is consolidated as a trail running event and nature destination”. These runners are also “the best ambassadors of the race”, which joins the “strong live streaming and broadcast we provide during the race, making Transgrancanaria one of the most followed races in trail running worldwide”.

The Marathon, which will be held on a Friday and will depart from Tejeda, is the race with the highest number of entrants and has exceeded the 80% of its capacity. The Classic race, which remains in Las Canteras for the start line and Maspalomas as the great finish spot, is over 65%, while the 80 km Advanced race with the departure from Agaete is now at its 61%.

Over a half of the registered runners are foreign. Spain is the most represented country with around one thousand runners, followed by France with more than 200, the United Kingdom with over 100, Germany, Poland and Finland. Every single continent will be represented in the six start lines, with runners from countries such as China, Senegal, Canada, USA, Japan, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico or Australia, among others.

Those runners who want to register today, Wednesday 9th, or tomorrow, Thursday 10th, will still have a discount as the registration period ends this Thursday. They can also still take the option to pay their race entries in installments.

The event, part of the Spartan Trail World Championship, is sponsored by SWE Hospitales Universitarios San Roque, Fred Olsen Express, Expomeloneras, 226ERS, Hotel Vital Suites Residencia and RS Sonocom Audiovisuales, as well as receiving the support of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through Turismo de Gran Canaria and the Instituto Insular de Deportes, Promotur of the Government of the Canary Islands, Maspalomas Costa Canaria and the Town Councils of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Tejeda and Agaete.
